THE JOY OF PARENTHOOD

A few years ago I wanted to explore parenthood.
I was so intrigued by the size of baby's hands...it is something that you easily forget, something that will never repeat itself in the course of a child's life. In my pre-photography times I had taken a clay-impression of my children's hands when they were first born, and every time I look at it I cannot believe that they were that small.
When I took the pictures of the hands I wanted to make sure they would be backlit, in order to see a silhouette. I also wanted to show clearly the difference in sizes between adult and baby. I think I succeeded.
The sepia tone of the images lends them a certain neutrality, without loosing life.
Fathers were also included in this portfolio, since nowadays they play not only an active part in rearing children, but are also allowed to show tenderness and emotions. I hope the images reflect this change.
Now enjoy the images...and just drop a note in the blogger if you want to express your opinion!

Pregnancy
This image is printed on Indian hand-made Lokta paper which gives the dress the future mother is wearing a particularly real look.
I love experimenting with different papers and creative techniques. Wait till I publish them in a future blog!Posted by Picasa

SOME OF MY PORTRAITURE

I am famous for beautiful portraits...so they say. I have often gotten comments like, "Oh my, I am not that pretty in reality! You make me look so good in your pictures!" Well, all I can say: It is so easy to take a beautiful image of someone who is: all made-up for a shoot, in a pleasant mood (we usually have fun during sessions...), open to my suggestions, when posing, and... to tell you the truth, I just find people beautiful during my shoots...and most of all, I really try hard to find the "good angle" of someone's face (they can affirm that!). I also enjoy "playing" with light tremenduously.
The whole process of a session fascinates me...actually to a point where sometimes I just have to force myself to stop shooting. The more time I spend with someone in the studio the more I appreciate every opportunity when I think: oh wow, that's it!
So there we are....still trying to figure out, how this Blog this! program could work for me in an efficiant way....enjoy!
ps.: You can send your comments right inside this Blog!
See you later!

Montreal in its Christmas Costume

On a Saturday night I finally carried out what I had planned to do waiting for the perfect weather conditions:
fresh snow, overcast sky, no snowfall.
It was 10:00pm. My camera, tripod, wide angle lens, 2 memory cards and myself took off, heading downtown Montreal where a few nights before I had promised to return to the beautifully illuminated streets.
I started off at Crescent St.. Surely I blocked some traffic, aggravated some drivers being in the way - emergency lights flashing....but what do you expect from a photographer who is out for his long awaited "catch"?
I was fortunate enough to be able to take most of the pictures from within my car. With the windows open, heat at full blast, the tripod on my lap, I cruised through the busy streets trying to catch a glimpse of the most beautiful sights.
Mc Gill St. made it impossible for me to take the pictures from within the car, so out I ventured. It was a short excursion, though, since my fingers were useless, hurting and stiff from the blistering cold. I endured the pain till I returned to the shelter of my car, running, wondering if frostbite felt like what I was experiencing in my extremities.
At 1:00am I arrived at my West Island home, tired but happy.
As I told my partner about my midnight adventure he remarked grinningly that I out of all people had chosen one of the coldest nights, ignoring the weather forecast which I refuse to take over my life.(must be my Austrian blood)...furthermore: what do you expect from a photographer out for his long awaited catch?
Now have a look at what I got to share with you - and enjoy!
See you later!
